November 21, 2007 - On the night before Thanksgiving, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team worked a little overtime to head into the holiday with a victory.
The Chargers, down eight with less than seven minutes to go in the second half, came back to top Albion College 77-74 before a big holiday week crowd at the Jesse Philips Arena. The Chargers, playing their fourth game in six days, are now 2-2 on the season

and are back in action Friday, Nov. 30 at home against Marygrove College. Albion falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
Hillsdale was able to give first-year head coach John Tharp his first official home win as Chargers' coach. Tharp and his team battled hard throughout the game, and overcame a big deficit with little time to spare.
Albion hit key shots in building a 62-54 lead with 4:54 left in the contest. But Hillsdale finished regulation on an 11-3 run, and no shot was bigger than a dramatic one hit by senior Tim Homan.
Homan produced a four-point play that tied the game 65-65 with 35 seconds left in the second half. He nailed a 3-point basket from the top of the key, was fouled, and then converted the subsequent free throw to tie the game for the first time since the 16:10 mark of the second half.
The Britons got the first basket of overtime, but the Chargers responded with tighter defense and a 7-0 run that gave them the lead for good.
Junior Tony Gugino, who led the team in scoring once again, drained a 3-pointer that gave Hillsdale a 68-67 lead early in overtime. He then hit two free throws and nailed a jump shot, giving him seven straight points on his way to a game-high 26 in the contest.
Albion pulled to within two with 14 seconds left in overtime, but junior Travis Worst hit one free throw that turned out to give Hillsdale enough of a margin to earn the victory.
Gugino added 11 rebounds and a career-high tyying five blocked shots in Hillsdale's win. Four players scored in double figures overall for the Chargers, including 15 from Homan, 13 from junior Keith MacKenzie and 11 from Worst. Freshman Kody Kokx had seven rebounds and four points off the Charger bench, and MacKenzie had three steals in the game.
