Women's basketball team improves to 3-0 with 81-66 win over Shepherd
November 24, 2007 - The Hillsdale College women's basketball team has made a habit of getting off to fast starts in recent seasons. That trend continued Saturday afternoon, as the Chargers imroved to 3-0 on the season with an 81-66 win over Shepherd at Ashland, Ohio.

Hillsdale is back in action at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ashland against Alderson-Broaddus. The team is participating in the AU Thanksgiving Classic for the second consecutive year.

After falling behind by eight points in the first four minutes of the game, the Chargers dominated the final 32 minutes, leading by as many as 29 points at one stage in the second half. Hillsdale got a balanced offensive effort, spearheaded by a freshman.

Guard Kara McCormick was 4-for-4 from 3-point land on her way to a team-high 17 points in the win. McCormick played 22 minutes off the bench, and was 5-for-5 from the field overall.

Hillsdale shot 8-for-14 from 3-point territory as a team, and turned that early eight-point deficit into a 37-24 halftime lead.

Junior Katie Cezat was 5-for-5 from the free throw line, en route to 15 points. She also led the team with eight rebounds, and blocked two shots. Senior Julie Slot matched Cezat's 15-point output, while sophomore guard Janay Miller added 11 points. Miller, Claire Aubrey and Brooke Knight all had four assists. The Chargers had 18 assists on 26 made field goals, an excellent ratio for the game.
