Charger men ease past Marygrove, 99-72
November 30, 2007 - The Hillsdale College men's basketball team warmed up for the start of GLIAC play Friday night with a 99-72 victory over visiting Marygrove College. Hillsdale is now 3-2 on the season and will stay at home next Thursday to host Ashland University.

Marygrove, an NAIA school based in Detroit, made its first-ever visit to Jesse Philips Arena, and was greeted by a Charger team clicking on all cylinders in the first half. Hillsdale built a 28-point halftime lead and cruised from there, winning its second straight game on its home court.

The Chargers scored 36 poitns off Marygrove turnovers, and never trailed after the first minute of the contest.

Junior center Tony Gugino, the reigning GLIAC South Player of the Week, led Hillsdale with 22 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots in just 20 minutes of playing time. Gugino was 9-for-10 from the field.

A total of six Charger players scored in double figures. Senior Tim Homan had 12 points and five rebounds, while junior Evan Steward and freshman Joe Caruso each poured in 11. Junior Travis Worst and sophomore Tyler Brand each popped in 10 points.

Junior Keith MacKenzie added nine points, six rebounds and six assists, as he helped complete several successful fast breaks with excellent passes to Hillsdale players running out on the break.

Eric Johnson led Marygrove with 18 points.
