Women's basketball team stays perfect on season
November 30, 2007 - The turn of the calendar from November to December is usually a festive one. But the players and coaches of the Hillsdale College women's basketball team might be a little sad to see November head into history.

That's because the Chargers have enjoyed another dominant opening month of the season, wrapped up Friday night with a 66-48 win over the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) at West Virginia Tech University. Hillsdale is 5-0 on the season and will take on the host school of this weekend's tournament at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Hillsdale has now won 19 of its last 20 games in the month of November, dating back to the 2004-05 season. The finishing touches of another perfect month were applied in a very balanced offensive showing by the Chargers.

Hillsdale broke open a close game in the second half, outscoring Cumberland 40-27 in the final 20 minutes. The Chargers shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half, and finished with a 44-27 advantage in the rebounding department.

Junior forward Katie Cezat grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with 18 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field. Cezat has scored at least 10 points in all five of Hillsdale's games this season.

In Friday's game, Cezat was joined in the double-digit scoring column by three teammates. Sophomore Janay Miller played a terrific all-around game with 11 points, six steals, five assists and seven rebounds in 33 minutes. Five of her rebounds came on the offensive end.

Sophomore guard Brooke Knight scored 12 points and had five assists and four steals while playing all but one minute of the game. Junior Claire Aubrey tacked on a season-high 11 points. Freshman Laura Barczak grabbed five rebounds in eight minutes on the court, and senior Julie Slot contributed eight points and seven rebounds.
