December 6, 2007 - Playing its first home game of the 2007-08 season, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team put on a defensive show in a 65-45 win over visiting Ashland University Thursday night. The win extends Hillsdale's season-opening winning streak to seven games, and puts the Chargers 1-0 in the conference.
The youthful Chargers held Ashland without a point for a seven-minute stretch of the first half, when a tight game was turned into

a 23-8 Hillsdale lead with less than four minutes left in the first half. Although Ashland came out with an improved offense in the second half, it could never close in on Hillsdale, who played with effort and efficiency.
The Chargers held the Eagles to 21 percent shooting in the first half, en route to building a 29-13 lead at intermission. Although Ashland nearly tripled its made field goals in the second half, the 16-point deficit was too much for the consistent Chargers, who did an excellent job at keeping Ashland an arm's distance from the lead.
Senior Julie Slot (pictured) came out playing aggressively at both ends of the court and helped spark Hillsdale's good start with 12 first-half points. She finished the game with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists in a fine all-around effort.
Junior Katie Cezat came into the game as the GLIAC's leading scorer, and showed the home fans a glimpse of good things to come. She scored a team-high 19 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field. She also led all players with 13 rebounds in the first home start of her career.
Sophomore Brooke Knight played 38 minutes on the court and contributed in all areas, scoring four points with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. She also played with aggressiveness on the defensive end of the court, making life uncomfortable for the Ashland guards.
Lynsey Warren, the fine setter from the Ashland volleyball team who is now playing basketball, led the Eagles with 10 points.
