December 6, 2007 - That warm feeling coming out of Jesse Philips Arena Thursday night originated fromthe left arm of Ashland University guard Brett Bartlett.
Making one killer shot after another, Bartlett scored a career-high 32 points to help lead the Eagles to a 95-80 win over the Hillsdale College men's basketball team in Hillsdale Thursday. Ashland,

fresh off a home win over fourth-ranked Findlay, is now 2-0 in the GLIAC while Hillsdale falls to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in the GLIAC.
Bartlett nailed five 3-point baskets in the game, a number of them coming well beyond the arc, to help carry Ashland past Hillsdale in an intense, competitive matchup.
A layup by Hillsdale's Tony Gugino gave the Chargers a 60-59 lead early in the second half. But that's when Bartlett went to work. He hit four of his 3-pointers in a five-minute span, a streak that included a layup and five straight made free throws, to spark the Eagles on a 27-14 run in that same span that gave them a 12-point advantage with 3:15 left in the game.
The Chargers showed plenty of fight, closing the score to 88-80 on a 3-pointer by Tyler Brand, with 95 seconds left in the game. But there were too few possessions left for the Chargers to make a deeper dent in the Ashland lead.
If Bartlett sparked the second-half surge by Ashland, then it was his teammate Kale Richardson, who did plenty of damage in the first half. Richardson, a redshirt-freshman, scored 19 of his 26 points in the opening 20 minutes, making eight of his 10 shots from the floor.
Four players scored in double figures for Hillsdale, led by junior guard Keith MacKenzie's season-high 23. He nailed five 3-point field goals, and had four assists in 37 minutes on the floor.
Gugino, the GLIAC's leading scorer coming into the game, finished with 17 points, three rebounds and a season-high five assists. Junior Travis Worst (pictured) scored 15, including nine in the first half, while senior Tim Homan scored 13, leaving him two points shy of the 1,000-point mark for his career.
Hillsdale will host Saginaw Valley State University at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jesse Philips Arena. It will be the Chargers' final home game until after the new year.
