No. 2-ranked Grand Valley defeats Charger men, 66-50
January 31, 2008 - The No. 2-ranked team in the country came into Jesse Philips Arena and showed everyone why they are deserving of that lofty ranking.

Grand Valley State University remained undefeated on the season in a 66-50 win over the Chargers in Jesse Philips Arena. The Lakers are 23-0 and 11-0 in the GLIAC, while Hillsdale falls to 11-9 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

The Lakers put their terrific skill and athleticism on display in holding Hillsdale to its lowest point total of the season.

Low-scoring was the theme of the first half, that saw the teams head to the locker rooms having scored a combined 47 points. Grand Valley held a 27-20 lead at intermission, and the Chargers felt encouraged about staying within striking distance in the game's first 20 minutes.

Back-to-back 3-point field goals by Hillsdale's Tony Gugino brought Hillsdale to within four points, but the Chargers would get no closer, as the Lakers spread the offense throughout the roster to pull away in the second half.

Gugino had his second straight solid game, leading all scorers with 23 points, going 8-for-17 from the floor. He hit three 3-point baskets, and had a season-high 14 rebounds. He was the only Hillsdale player to crack double figures in scoring.

Jason Jamerson led Grand Valley with 17 points, followed by 16 from center Callistus Eziuwku.

The Chargers will host Wayne State University at 3 p.m. Saturday.
