Charger women stay hot, pound Gannon on the road, 83-47
February 7, 2008 - Trips to Gannon University's Hammermill Center haven't ended very well for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team in recent years. But this is a new year, and a new result took place Thursday night.

The Chargers put together an incredible wire-to-wire effort in routing Gannon 83-47 Thursday night in Erie, Pa. Hillsdale, winners of six straight, are now 18-3 overall and 11-2 in the GLIAC.

The Chargers had lost four of their past five meetings with the Golden Knights in Erie, including last year's GLIAC Championship Game. But Thursday's game was no contest, as the Chargers thoroughly dominated Gannon for all 40 minutes of the game.

The Chargers jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the game's first nine minutes, and after a brief Gannon surge, Hillsdale reassumed control of the game and never relinquished it.

The 36-point margin of victory is the largest of the season for Hillsdale. The Chargers shot a season-best 63 percent from the field in the game, and had 24 assists on 32 field goals.

Making the most of those field goals was once again, junior forward Katie Cezat, who continued her great play this season. She finished with 31 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, going 11-for-16 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. She has now scored more than 30 points in each of the past three games, and is averaging 35 points per game during that stretch. Cezat scored 12 of the team's first 19 points in the opening nine minutes of the first half.

Hillsdale finished the first half on an 11-3 run to break open a four-point game into a 35-23 lead at intermission. The break didn't halt Hillsdale's momentum one bit, as the team opened the second half on a 16-6 run in the first five minutes, capped off by a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Janay Miller.

Miller set a new career-high in scoring for the third time in the past three weeks, registering 15 points, with three 3-point field goals made. Sophomore guard Brooke Knight had seven points and eight assists, while junior Claire Aubrey played a strong overall game with 10 points and three rebounds, on five-for-seven shooting.

The Chargers will seek their seventh straight win Saturday with a game vs. Mercyhurst College in Erie, starting at 1 p.m. Click on the link below for the box score from Thursday's game.
