Charger women finish regular season on 11-game winning streak; beat Wayne State 76-60
February 23, 2008 - In today's regular season finale, the Hills dale College women's basketball team turned in an effort reminiscent of the team's past 10 games - all wins.

Hillsdale withstood several second-half runs from Wayne State to come away with a 76-60 victory Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei Center in Detroit. The win gives Hillsdale a 23-3 overall record and a final GLIAC mark of 15-2, number one overall in the conference.

The win also ties a school record for wins in a season (23), set by the 2002-03 team. The Chargers' opponent won't be determined until the conclusion of tonight's matchup between Gannon and Mercyhurst.

Hillsdale got off to a strong start in the game, building a 15-point halftime lead. Junior Claire Aubrey was a driving force in the good start for the Chargers, scoring 12 of her 16 total points in the opening half. Her 33 points in the team's past two games are the most she's scored in any two-game stretch in her career.

Junior forward Katie Cezat continued to set records and move up the program's single-season lists in the game. She finished with a game-high 30 points to go along with 16 rebounds. She was 8-for-9 from the free throw line, and made 11 field goals.

Cezat is now Hillsdale's single-season leader for field goals made with 242. She breaks the record previously held by Hillsdale College Athletic Hall of Famer Sandy Skaisgir, who made 239 field goals in the 1989-90 season.

Cezat's 30 points also gives her 606 for the season, making her just the second player in school history to eclipse the 600-point barrier for one season. She now stands 26 points away from setting that record.

Wayne State took control of the game to open the second half, going on a 6-0 run and holding the Chargers without a field goal for more than six minutes to open the half. The Warriors got as close as seven points, but a quick 7-2 Charger run restored their advantage to double figures, and the team was never seriously challenged after that.

Senior Julie Slot, playing the final regular season game of her career, scored 16 points and had seven assists and four rebounds. Sophomore Janay Miller added eight points for Hillsdale.
