No. 2 Grand Valley ends Charger men's basketball season with 63-49 win in first round of GLIAC tournament
March 1, 2008 - The Grand Valley State University men's basketball team might end the season of a number of teams in the upcoming tournaments. Hillsdale College ended up being the first on that list.

Playing a competitive game on the road, the Chargers lost in the first round of the 2008 GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament, 63-49, to the Lakers in Allendale Saturday afternoon. Hillsdale's season ends with a 14-14 overall record.

The Lakers upheld their reputation for being the best defensive team in the conference, holding the Chargers to less than 50 points for the first time this season. Hillsdale scored a total of 99 points in its two meetings against Grand Valley.

Hillsdale shot a season-low 29 percent from the field, making 13 of its 44 attempts from the field for the game. Grand Valley held a 35-22 edge on the boards, and held the Chargers to getting just one player in double digit scoring.

Tony Gugino, who was the GLIAC's scoring leader in the regular season with 19.7 points per game, finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals in 38 minutes.

Grand Valley outscored Hillsdale by just two points in the second half, 26-24, but a 12-point halftime lead stood for the Lakers.

In his final collegiate game, Hillsdale College senior Tim Homan finished with seven points, along with three rebounds, two assists and three steals.
