Katie Cezat named GLIAC Player of the Year; also named First-Team All-GLIAC and All-Defense
March 6, 2008 - Capping off a record-setting regular season, Hillsdale College junior forward Katie Cezat was named the 2007-08 GLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year Thursday night. The all-conference awards were presented at a banquet Thursday night on the campus of Michigan Tech University.

Cezat became the third Charger athlete to be named GLIAC Player of the Year this athletic year. Football player Mark Nicolet and volleyball player Melissa Bartlett were also named the conference players of the year in their respective sports.

In addition to her player of the year award, Cezat was also named to the GLIAC First-Team All-South Division, and named to the South Division's All-Defensive Team.

Joining Cezat on the first team was senior forward Julie Slot, who earned her first all-conference honor of her career. Junior guard Claire Aubrey was also named to the South Division All-Defensive Team.

Cezat finished the regular season as the GLIAC's leading scorer and rebounder. She set a total of eight single-game and single-season school records this season, and set GLIAC records for scoring average in conference games (24.8) and field goals made. She is also tied for first in the nation in scoring average and is third in the nation in rebounding average.

Cezat holds the single-season school records for points (640), rebounds (338), field goals made (254) and blocked shots (37). On Feb. 2, Cezat set school records for points in a game (42), free throws made in a game (18) and free throws attempted in a game (23). On Jan. 26 vs. Gannon, Cezat set a school record for total rebounds in a game (25). No other player in Hillsdale College women's basketball history holds as many single-season records as Cezat now owns.

The Chargers as a team have tied the school record for wins in a season (23), and will set a new school record for best winning percentage in a season, regardless of how the team does in next week's Great Lakes Regional Tournament.

Slot has enjoyed the best season of her career, averaging a career-best 13.3 points per game. She leads the team with 45 3-point field goals made, and is second on the team in scoring, assists, rebounds and blocked shots.

Aubrey has also embraced her bigger role on this year's team with fine all-around play all season. She reinforced her reputation as a strong defensive player, helping to lead the Chargers to the best mark in the conference for points allowed per game (58.2). Aubrey averaged 31 minutes played per game, and has a plus-22 mark in assists-to-turnover margin.

Hillsdale College remains ranked No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region this week. The Chargers will play in the regional tournament, with their first game scheduled for Friday, March 14. The location, time and opponent are yet to be determined. The regional draw will be announced on ncaa.org this Sunday night, March 9, starting at 10:30 p.m.
