Department:
Economics and Business Administration
Biography:
I was born and raised in metro Detroit and am the first generation in my family to attend college. I live in Jonesville with my wife, Susan, son, Michael (15) and dog, Scruffy. In my off time I enjoy cycling and often commute to school by bicycle.
Research Interests:
Non-financial performance measures.
Favorite class to teach:
Principles of Accounting II is one of my favorites. I enjoy the perspectives of non-accounting majors.
What is your favorite student success story?:
There are so many that it would be difficult to pick a favorite. It is especially gratifying when an accounting alumnus returns to campus to interview our students for jobs in accounting or to speak to the members of the Accounting Club.
What do you like best about Hillsdale College?:
The small class sizes allow me to get to know my students. I recently attended a conference where I ran into a former classmate from graduate school. He teaches accounting principles at a large state university. He has two lecture sections with over 700 students each one. His lecture sections break into 30 recitation sections that are taught by graduate assistants. He rarely gets to know any of his students. By way of contrast, my current introductory class has 17 students enrolled, and I know them all.
What advice would you give to prospective students?:
Do your homework. Study the institutions that you are considering before you make your choice.
What do you like best about the students at Hillsdale?:
Their overall positive attitudes.
