Title/Organization:
Yale Law School student
Biography:
I am a native Californian, but have lived there only periodically over the last five years. I went to an all-boys Catholic school for high school and was involved in track, basketball and policy debate. After overcoming my fears of going to the Midwest to attend a small, liberal arts school in south-central Michigan, I came to Hillsdale College. I have come to believe that choosing Hillsdale College was one of the best, most important decisions of my life. I went to law school right out of Hillsdale and am going into my second year now.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending Hillsdale College?:
Hillsdale taught me to love and pursue truth, beauty and goodness, and that a life without thought and reflection is life not lived to its fullest.
What advice would you give to prospective students?:
Attend Hillsdale College. I went to a very competitive, college prep high school that emphasized more than anything else the importance of attending a big name, prestigious university. Though I partially bought into that line, I thank God that I ended up at Hillsdale nonetheless. I believe that Hillsdale College is the greatest college in America, and that no other school can rival the educational experience it offers. I can't imagine what my life would be without having been formed there.
Why did you choose to attend Hillsdale College?:
I recognized in a small way that Hillsdale would provide a better education than any other school I could choose.
How did Hillsdale prepare you for life after graduation?:
Remarkably. I have confidence in law school having spent four years at Hillsdale College. Hillsdale taught me to write and to think. If a person can do these two things well, he or she will be prepared for anything after graduation.
What was the highlight of your Hillsdale experience?:
I look back at my four years at Hillsdale College with great fondness. There was no single highlight; there are hundreds. I'll leave you with one, though, which typifies my, and many other's, experience at Hillsdale: I returned exactly one year after my own graduation for the graduation of the class right below me. During that weekend, I had meals at two professor's homes, visited with countless students, and felt as though I had only been gone a day. I felt as if I were part of a family in which time and distance were less important than the experiences we shared.
