Biography:
I was born and grew up in the Twin Cities, in Minnesota (which I consider the best place in the country to live). I am the middle child of three, and have two loving parents who have always instilled in us the importance of loving God and growing close as a family. We always spent a lot of time together; the time spent together at our lake cabin in Wisconsin has been a big part of our summers. I attended a private Christian school, Minnehaha Academy, where I played soccer and had a tight-knit group of friends that are still a big part of my life today. I enjoy spending my time with friends, and when I have free time I love to paint.
Why did you choose to attend Hillsdale?:
When my dad first told me about Hillsdale, I said there was no way I was going to attend a school in such a small town. I thought I would humor him and visit the campus. I was looking for a small school that would challenge me academically. I found that in Hillsdale, but the most important thing was being in a community where my principles would be encouraged and shared. I could tell Hillsdale was where I belonged.
What do you like best about Hillsdale?:
My favorite thing about Hillsdale is the people I’ve met here. My closest friends share a desire to work hard and grow in their faith, and they are always supportive and encouraging. Amid all the studying and busyness of school, we still manage to have some fun, too. I know that the friendships made here will be life-long.
What are your plans after graduation?:
I’m leaving that up to the Lord, but hopefully he has plans for me in the Twin Cities!
What unique experiences have you had while attending Hillsdale?:
There is an overwhelming number of ways to experience new and unique things at Hillsdale. Last year I got to be a part of our dorm Bible study, and I visited a resident at the nursing home weekly where I heard some great stories. I’ve had an amazing time being part of the girl’s club soccer team and a member of my sorority, Chi Omega. I have come to care so much for my sorority sisters who are passionate about being involved on campus and great examples of what it means to be a leader. Hillsdale draws people from all over the country, so it’s also been awesome to meet people from so many different places. One of my best friends is from Thailand, and I love hearing about what it was like to grow up there. With everything going on here, I’m never bored!
What is your favorite professor story?:
The quality of professors at Hillsdale has far exceeded my expectations. They value their relationships with their students so much and go above and beyond what is required of them. I never thought I’d be invited to my professor’s house for a home-cooked meal, or offered a lunch date at Oakley’s by a professor who had to cancel a meeting. They are incredibly dedicated to their work and are absolutely brilliant.
Describe the impact of Hillsdale's core curriculum on you.:
The variety of classes we are required to take has made me realize how much I don’t know about the world. From art history to biology, to English and History, I am receiving such a well-rounded education that provides me with the skills and knowledge to talk intelligently about all sorts of issues, which will be beneficial in the future.
