HEAD COACH PAUL NOCE
Hillsdale College baseball coach Paul Noce has taken his place as one of the longest-tenured head coaches on the Charger athletic staff. In 2008, Noce will begin his 16th season at the helm of the Hillsdale College baseball program.
During his career, Noce has guided the Chargers to 256 victories. The high point of that tenure came during the 2003 season, when he guided the team to 24 victories and a spot in the GLIAC Tournament. He is the only coach in Hillsdale College baseball history to lead the team to back-to-back 20-win seasons and spots in the postseason tournament.
Prior to coaching at Hillsdale College, Noce spent time on the major league level with the Chicago Cubs (1987) and Cincinnati Reds (1990). His career started in the minor leagues as he developed from 1981-1991 with seven different organizations: San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Montreal Expos, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants.
Following his playing career, Noce served as a roving minor-league base running and bunting instructor in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization from 1992-1993. Coach Noce also has international baseball experience. He assisted as a staff member for the Pacific Dolphins (Korea) and Unlimited Baseball Clinics (Russia).
A native of San Francisco, California, Noce lettered collegiately at Washington State University. Paul and his wife, Diane, reside in Adrian, Michigan with their three sons, Joshua, Casey and Jesse.
ASSISTANT COACH ANDY LOVELL
One of the best pitchers in the history of Hillsdale College baseball, Andy Lovell enters his third season on the baseball team coaching staff, and his second as its full-time assistant.
Lovell played for head coach Paul Noce and the Chargers from 2003-06, and finished his career tied for the school's all-time leader in pitching wins with 24. He appeared in 64 games in his career, with 33 starts. His 253.1 innings pitched in his career as third in school history.
He was named First-Team All-GLIAC in 2005, and was a preseason All-American pick as a senior in 2006. He was named honorable mention All-GLIAC in 2006.
Lovell earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from Hillsdale College in May 2006, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in higher education from the University of Toledo. Lovell also served as an intern in the Hillsdale College sports information office in 2006-07.
