Food and Drink   Top

However, small amounts of snack foods and non-alcoholic drinks with lids are tolerated.

Gift Policy   Top
The Michael Alex Mossey Library views gifts as an important adjunct to the acquisitions program. The Mossey Library is grateful for contributions and recognizes the potential for gifts to play a significant role in collection growth and development. However, since gift materials have a significant impact on library space, processing costs and procedures, it is necessary that certain conditions be observed in accepting gifts.

It is the policy of the Mossey Library to accept gifts with the understanding that upon receipt, they are owned by the college and become a part of the Mossey Library, and therefore, the Mossey Library reserves the right to determine their retention, location, housing, circulation, classification, and other considerations relating to their use or disposition.

The appraisal of a gift to the Mossey Library is the legal responsibility of the donor since the Internal Revenue Service considers a recipient library to be an interested party and, therefore, an inappropriate appraiser. The Mossey Library and Hillsdale College can assume no responsibility for the accuracy of the donor’s appraisal of the gift items. The donor should submit to the college a written notification stating the monetary value of the donated material. Acknowledgement of the gift will be furnished in writing by the college, should the donor need it for income, estate or other tax purpose.

Endorsed by the Faculty Library Committee and approved by the President’s cabinet, this policy has been in effect since 1981.

Policy on cell-phone use in the Library    Top
Please respect other Mossey Library users when using your cell phone. If it is necessary for you to use your cell phone in the Library, please keep your voice low and your conversation brief. Detailed conversations should be taken outside the Library or in the lobby outside of the Library’s wooden entrance doors. If there is a chance you are disturbing others, then please end your conversation and renew it later in a more appropriate location. Recurring offenders may be asked to refrain from using their cell phones in the Library. Thank you.
