Library Policies for Faculty

Circulation
You must have your staff ID card to check out materials from the library. Bring materials to the circulation desk located near the exit.
Books are due at the end of the academic year. A-V materials, including videotapes, compact disks, dvds, and audiotapes, are due back in 7 days. Items are subject to recall if someone else needs the material.
Any spouse may receive his or her own library card. Books are due back in 21 days and A-V materials in 7 days.

Course Reserves
Library books, A-V materials, photocopies of articles, and personal items may be placed on reserve at the circulation desk. The check-out period may be 3 hours, 24 hours or 72 hours. The 3 hour items may be restricted to library use only or allowed out of the library overnight if checked out less than 3 hours before closing.
Reserve materials are processed during the business day. Please give the staff 24 hours to process reserve materials before students need to use the materials.

Class Instruction
Librarians are available to give library instruction to classes. Instruction is usually done in the library with the presentation tailored to the specific assignment of the class. Please feel free to send any student to talk to a librarian if they are having difficulties with library research. Contact Linda Moore or Sarah Mitchell to set up an instruction time for your class.

Databases and Dialog
We offer a number of databases which are available for searching by students and staff. Additional databases are available but must be searched by a librarian. Please contact the library staff for an appointment.

MeLCat
For materials not owed by Mossey Library or owned but not unavailable, faculty are encouraged to use MeLCat. MeLCat is a statewide catalog containing more than 10 million items. There are links to it on the Library’s homepage and in the Library’s catalog. This system is much faster than the traditional interlibrary loan since it is linked to a delivery system. Patrons are notified by email when the items have arrived.

Interlibrary Loan
Materials needed for research that are not available in Mossey Library or though MeLCat may be obtained through interlibrary loan. Forms are available at the Circulation Desk and the Reference desk or requests may be e-mailed to Judy Leising. Neither you nor your department will be charged for interlibrary loan.
Photocopies of articles are yours to keep but we do ask you to promptly return books that they may be returned to the lending libraries on time.
