New Classical Charter Schools

After soliciting proposals over the summer of 2010 from groups who plan to start classical charter schools, a review team of Hillsdale College staff and faculty members identified three groups—from Savannah, Georgia; Lewisville, Texas; and Moriarty, New Mexico—to be of significant interest and potential.  These groups visited Hillsdale to meet with the review team and discuss their plans and educational philosophies. The Texas and New Mexico schools welcomed their students to the first day of school in the fall of 2012, and the Georgia group will open their school in 2013.  The College has worked with all these groups on the drafting of founding documents, designing and writing the curriculum, and identifying candidates to be the school principal.  Visit these schools’ websites:

Additional individuals continue to identify themselves to our charter school initiative team as concerned citizens who are seriously exploring the steps to found a classical charter school in their community.  As these individuals find like-minded people to form a school founding board, Hillsdale College will extend its support to these new school leaders.  Recently, Hillsdale College began working with groups in the following cities:
