EARLY TV WESTERNS
March 1-5, 2009

In the early days of American television, the Western was predominant. Today, with few exceptions—such as Lonesome Dove in the late 1980s and the recent remake of 3:10 to Yuma—the Western, whether on film or on TV, seems to have run its course.

This fourth and final CCA of the 2008-2009 academic year—combining the showing of several episodes of early TV Westerns with four lectures—will consider what the American Western represented, and the moral and political significance of its passing.
