Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976; since its creation, Habitat for Humanity International has built in excess of 300,000 homes and placed more than 1.5 million people around the world in safe housing, encouraging strong family structures through their family-home pairing selection process. The Hillsdale College Habitat for Humanity affiliate provides the opportunity for student volunteers to contribute to the larger Habitat for Humanity mission by working alongside community volunteers in various stages of home building. Most workdays occur on weekends and no particular skill level is expected; in fact, Habitat for Humanity provides an excellent training ground for students looking to learn basic labor skills. The only prerequisite for volunteerism is a willingness and desire to serve. In addition to building projects, volunteers complete minor home improvements, assist with yard work, and run campus-wide fundraising efforts.
