Phi Sigma Tau is the campus philosophy honorary that serves to award distinction to students having high scholarship and personal interest in philosophy; to promote student interest in research and advanced study in this field; to provide opportunities for the publication of student research papers of merit; to encourage a professional spirit and friendship among those who have displayed marked ability in this field; and to popularize interest in philosophy among the general collegiate public. Students are eligible for membership if they have an overall grade-point average of 3.000 or higher, have the recommendation of a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy and Religion and have completed at least two semesters in philosophy, one of which must have been in a 200 level course or above, with at least a B average in philosophy. Meetings involve student presentations of papers and debates on philosophical issues.
