Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity for women that was founded in 1903 at the University of Michigan to further the development and study of music.  Hillsdale's Sigma Mu chapter was founded in 1925. Applicants for membership must demonstrate a sincere interest in music and shall be enrolled in or shall have completed one or more courses in music. The chapter participates in a variety of musical events on campus each year and meets weekly at the Sigma Alpha Iota house.
