Your Telephone
The College has provided a telephone line, to which you should attach any standard residential telephone and answering machine. Your telephone must be touch tone - see below.
Touch Tone
Touch tone is a method of sending the digits of the number you are dialing. In order to use an Auth Code, you need to have a touch tone telephone. In order for a telephone to be touch tone it must have push buttons and be set in the "T" or "Tone" dialing mode. If you are unsure, see your phone manual.
Direct Telephone Number
Each room is assigned a direct dial phone number. This means you can be called directly by someone dialing your assigned phone number. There are no special dialing requirements for the people calling you.
Phone Numbers and Room Changes
Phone numbers are assigned to the room first and to the student second. Therefore, if you change rooms, you will have a new phone number and your old number will remain active in your old room. Your Resicom Auth Code will remain the same. If you change rooms you are responsible for notifying others of your new phone number - no recording if a new number is available and no student numbers are listed with public Directory Assistance services. The College will distribute a directory of on campus phone numbers each semester.
Low Calling Rates
Easy Dialing
*For a complete list of local exchanges please go to http://www.resi.com/. If you think a number may be local, dial it that way first. If you are certain a number is local but it cannot be dialed that way, please contact Resicom. If you dial a local call as long distance, you will be billed at the long distance rates.
Spending Limit
All accounts are assigned a monthly spending limit of $100 per billing cycle. Spending limits are monitored daily on a best effort basis and your auth code will be deactivated once it is detected that the limit has been exceed. Please do not rely on the spending limit to stop all calling at a specific dollar amount and keep in mind taxes are not included in your spending limit balance. It is possible you will exceed the limit before your code is restricted. You are responsible for all your calling - even an amount over the spending limit. If you would like an email warning if you are approaching your spending limit, make sure we have your email address. You can request to have your spending limit lowered.
