New Construction and Renovation
Through the Founders Campaign, Hillsdale College seeks capital funding for construction and renovation projects that are a vital part of the campus Master Plan. New construction on the Hillsdale campus includes the following:
-
- Track and Tennis Facility - This air-conditioned, 70,000-square-foot athletic facility will include a six-lane, 200-meter regulation track and four individual tennis courts, and will also be used for winter workouts, commencement during inclement weather, and other large gatherings. $5.6 Million
- Turf Building - This 45,000-square-foot, all-purpose building features an artificial turf playing surface, and will serve students as a center for club sports, flag football, special events, and winter practices for football, baseball and softball. $2.7 Million
- Two New Residence Halls - Accommodating 94 students each, these much-needed residence halls will house students while renovations of existing residence halls are under way. $10.9 Million
- Archive Center - This Mossey Library addition will provide over 10,000 square feet of display and storage space, a reading room and special collections space. $3.1 Million
- Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Center - A 72-acre site four miles from campus is the location of the facility being developed in five phases: site preparation; trap and sporting clay field installation; 200-yard rifle range; 50-yard pistol range; and clubhouse construction. $4.1 Million
- Liberty Walk - Unique to Hillsdale College, a pathway around campus that features over-life-sized bronze statues of such statesmen as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill will continue to be developed throughout the Campaign. $2.0 Million
Renovation projects include these existing facilities:
- Off campus, a building at 227 Massachusetts Avenue, N.E., in Washington, D.C., serves as the headquarters for the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship. The building has been renovated and was formally dedicated in September 2010. $16.3 Million
- On Hillsdale’s main campus, the complex that contains the existing Knorr Center, Dow Leadership Center and Curtiss Dining Hall will enable the College to move ahead with its plan to establish the Hillsdale Graduate School of Statesmanship. $15.7 Million
- Residence hall refurbishment, key to attracting fine students, includes these five existing structures: Edgar B. Galloway Hall; Mauck Hall; McIntyre Hall; Metta W. Olds Residence; and Simpson Hall. $17.75 Million
- To provide a refurbished Student Fitness Center in the Roche Sports Complex, the plan calls for a two- to three-story mezzanine with climbing wall (to include exercise and strength-training machines on each level); four new hardwood courts; new arena lighting; lockers; a dance studio; and refreshment area and lounge. $2.2 Million
- The north face of Central Hall will be refurbished to include a 1,200 square-foot porch and an entrance designed in keeping with the 1875 building’s Second Empire architectural style. $1.45 Million
Completed Projects
The portion of the Founders Campaign that brings about the most visible advancements is the capital plan, which continues to transform the look of the campus, from its main entrance to its centrally located quadrangle. The following completed buildings, with the exception of the Benge Colonnade, still offer room-naming opportunities:
