The Dow Hotel and Conference Center is located on the northwest corner of the campus quad and serves the hospitality needs of the College administration, students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and the Hillsdale community.

The Dow Center operation includes thirty-six hotel rooms, nine conference rooms (available to campus groups as well as the business community), and the Rockwell Lake Lodge, a 16,000-square-foot lodge with ten guest suites located on the 685-acre G.H. Gordon Biological Station near Luther, Michigan, about two hundred miles northwest of Hillsdale.

Guest rooms are available to parents, alumni, and friends. Unless students’ parents are registered guests of the Dow Center, students must gain permission from the Vice President for Student Affairs before renting or entering any guest room.

As Hillsdale’s student body grew in the late 1950s, the need for a dining hall and a student union became apparent. The addition of a third facility for business leadership seminars, connected with the other two buildings under one roof, would create a unique conference complex that could be utilized by Hillsdale College for multiple educational purposes.

Groundbreaking took place in June 1963 after Hillsdale received a major grant from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation of Midland, Michigan. In 1964, the facility was completed.

In its early years, the Dow Center became a nationally-renowned conference facility where thousands of business leaders received training through in-depth leadership and management development seminars.

In 1972, the College established the Center for Constructive Alternatives seminar series (CCA), in which political and business leaders, scholars, authors, and journalists come to campus to deliver speeches on a variety of topics.

In addition to the CCA series, the Dow Center hosts the Ludwig von Mises Lecture Series, the Distinguished Visiting Fellows Programs, and the summer Hillsdale Hostels. Thousands of guests pass through the Dow Center each year for these and many other programs and events.
