2017 CODA Conference

Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra

James A. Holleman, Music Director

February 2-5, 2017

George Mason University Center for the Performing Arts

The Hillsdale College Symphony Orchestra, with James A. Holleman directing, was selected as one of two guest college/university orchestras to perform at the 2017 College Orchestra Directors Association Conference.

The audition was a blind process from recordings submitted of performances from the two previous years. Hillsdale College is the smallest school ever to perform at a CODA National Conference. The orchestra traveled by charter buses to Fairfax, Virginia on Thursday, February 2 and returned to campus on Sunday, Feb. 5. In addition to the orchestra’s feature performance, they participated in conducting workshops and attended a performance of the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center for the Arts on the final evening.

The audience for the Hillsdale performance was made up of CODA member College/University Orchestra Conductors from across the United States, Europe, and South America. Also in attendance were Hillsdale College Alumni and friends, parents of orchestra members, and Mrs. Penny Arnn. Solid Sound Studios of Ann Arbor, MI recorded the concert.
