Travel with New Friends, American History, and Giving Hillsdale a Chance
Robert McClelland wasn’t particularly excited about any colleges as a prospective student, but his parents knew of his interest in history and asked him to give Hillsdale a chance as a student in the College’s Roots and History of American Liberty High School Summer Travel Course. The experience convinced him Hillsdale was where he wanted to end up.

Colton Duncan, ’23, first came to Hillsdale in 2012. After his freshman year, though, he decided to enter seminary. Now, back at Hillsdale as house director of Niedfeldt Residence, he is looking to complete his degree in classics and international business.

Logan Woodhouse took the advice of his admissions counselor and participated the summer before his senior year in Hillsdale’s Winston Churchill and World War II High School Summer Study and Travel Course. The experience was filled with the memories of travel, but also resulted in new friends and a clear direction in his college search.

Frank “Tom” Thompson, ’24, is an 83-year-old veteran obtaining his degree in American history thanks to the Freedom Scholarship. Currently, 16 veteran students are on campus this fall earning their degrees after serving their country.
