Buddy Reading

The Buddy Reading program is based at Williams Elementary School in Jonesville, MI, ten minutes from campus. Both college and community volunteers help first- and second-grade elementary students learn to read. During each half-hour session, mentors meet with their designated child. The child chooses a book that corresponds to his reading level, and then the child and mentor take turns reading pages. Once the book is completed, the mentor asks the child a few basic comprehension questions and then helps the child to complete a writing activity based on the reading.
