Experimental Physics I

Modern physics lab emphasizing experimental techniques. Experiments focus on modern physics and will include blackbody radiation, the photoelectric effect, atomic spectra, Michelson interferometer, properties of laser light, single-photon detection, double-slit experiment done with single photons, Franck-Hertz experiment, etc. Experimental skills will be emphasized including error analysis, error propagation, least squares curve fitting, and hypothesis testing using the chi-square statistic.
