Music Since 1900

Analysis and interpretation of compositions written since 1900 with an emphasis on stylistic innovations and extensions of traditional principles. Students develop comprehension and aural awareness of extended scales, chords, serial ordering, transformational techniques, contextual designs and popular idioms. Repertoire for study includes representative works of European and American composers. Students integrate techniques and creativity in composition assignments.
