Theory III

Relates whole movements and multi-movement works to compositional designs and historic genres through analysis of the large-scale treatment of rhythm, meter, harmony and voice leading, motivic transformation, phrase structure, and sectional repetition. Students use various analytical approaches to discover and describe the form and develop well-supported interpretations of the music’s expressive range.
