Music Brings Us Together

Music has graced the halls of Hillsdale College from the very beginning in 1844. Whether part of the orchestra, various ensembles, or Michigan’s oldest collegiate choir, almost thirty percent of the Hillsdale College student body participates in music activities at some level — making it something that brings us together.

Majors and non-majors alike explore a wide range of musical activities such as performance (classical, contemporary and jazz), music history, music theory, composition, pedagogy, and music education. Overall, the Department of Music pursues a two-fold mission. First, to allow students to choose music as a field of concentration toward the completion of a bachelor of arts or science degree by undertaking a comprehensive program of music study and performance. Second, to allow students of any discipline to study music and participate in performing ensembles.
