Hillsdale Homecoming 2014

2014 Homecoming Highlights

It was chilly, windy, and a bit rainy, but that didn’t stop Hillsdale College students and alumni from having an awesome time at Homecoming this year! Here are some highlights from the weekend:

Alumni Awards Banquet
Old friends, classmates, and peers gathered for Hillsdale College’s 63rd Alumni Awards Banquet on Friday night. Alumni Murry Stegelmann, ’84, Gregory Wolfe, ’80, David Morrell, ’07, Paul Ray, ’08, and Glorie Jimenez ’61 received awards for their outstanding contributions to society since graduating.

Alumni Shoot
Alumni arrived at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center to enjoy an afternoon of shooting. For many, it was their first time, but after the first few rounds, the new shooters got into a rhythm and improved their accuracy.

Charger Tailgate
Another Homecoming favorite, the tailgate provides a great time to catch up with old classmates or meet new ones, eat good food, watch the parade, and enjoy autumn.

Homecoming Parade
Before the game, students decked out in blue and silver marched down College Street, Charger pride on full display. The cheerleading squad led the way, closely followed by representatives from all the Greek houses and dorms on campus. The Homecoming Court, riding in classic convertibles and pickups, idled slowly behind.

Hillsdale Chargers vs. Grand Valley Lakers
Students clad in Blue and White braved the cold to cheer on the Chargers as they played against rival Grand Valley. Though the Chargers took an exciting early lead, they fell to the Lakers in the second half.

King & Queen
As the Homecoming court was announced during halftime, a cheering crowd of students gathered on the edge of the field, preparing to celebrate. This year’s crowns went to Spencer Bell (Independent) and Morgan Delp (KKG).

Mock Rock
One of the most popular events on campus, Mock Rock did not disappoint. Over 13 teams and 200 participants competed this year. Three members of Hillsdale College’s facutly and staff judged the event and the scores are in: 1st place went to Chi Omega, 2nd place to Niedfelt dormitory, and 3rd to Simpson hall.
