Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship on February 28. The event was part of the AWC Family Foundation Lecture series. Faculty and media attended both the lecture and the reception that followed.

Hillsdale GOAL Program Hosts Healthcare Letter Writing Event

HILLSDALE, MICH. — The Hospital Volunteering Great Opportunities for Assistance and Leadership (GOAL) Program hosted a Healthcare Letter Writing Event the week of March 21 during lunch hours in the Grewcock Student Union. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., students wrote letters thanking healthcare workers for their service to the community. Letters will be delivered to staff at Hillsdale Hospital.

His talk, titled “To See or Not to See: C.S. Lewis and the Objectivity of Value,” addressed Lewis’s arguments concerning moral truth in “The Abolition of Man.”

Fourth Freshman Foundation Lecture Addresses Freedom in Relation to Liberal Arts Education

Paul Moreno, dean of social sciences and professor of history, offered a lecture to the freshman class on freedom. Moreno discussed how freedom relates to the liberal arts education by training free, self-governing individuals.

Five student finalists presented classically modeled, original oratories on “Individual Rights and the Common Good in American Education.”

Hillsdale’s First World Cup Medalist Takes Home Silver

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College student-athlete Ida Brown and employee Caitlin Connor Royer took home two silver medals at the Shotgun World Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus, on March 17. Brown is the first Hillsdale College student to secure a World Cup medal. She took the silver medal in the Women’s Trap Team event, while Royer — a four-time World Champion — won both a Mixed Team Skeet silver and a Women’s Team Skeet silver.

Hillsdale College Mock Trial Teams to Compete in National Championship Tournament

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale’s Mock Trial “A” Team qualified to compete at the final round of national competition hosted by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) after a successful opening round championship series (ORCs). The team competed against more than 500 teams from university programs across the country without divisional separations.

The Hillsdale Action Shooting Team earned its first national championship at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program’s College Nationals in Talladega, Alabama. The competition, which took place on March 12-13 in Talladega, Alabama, was the team’s first national competition as a varsity team. The 10-person team includes students ranging from sophomore to senior. Three team members are military veterans.

The two-day event featured speakers from across the country speaking on topics including election polling, race in America, and the importance of protecting citizens’ rights.

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Visiting folk band Goitse (go-wit-cha) recently brought a taste of Ireland to the Hillsdale College Campus. The quintet performed on March 8, as part of their 2022 U.S. tour and the College’s Professional Artist Series. Students, faculty and staff, and community members attended the concert in Markel auditorium.
