Anthony Esolen to Address Hillsdale College Graduating Class of 2017
Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College announces that Professor Anthony Esolen will address the class of 2017 at its 165th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 13 at 2 p.m. ET.
An internationally-known lecturer, translator, and writer, Dr. Esolen is best known for his Modern Library translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Dr. Esolen last visited Hillsdale College in 2012 when he delivered a Center for Constructive Alternatives lecture titled, “What is an Epic?”
“Professor Esolen’s work continues to inspire many, and our graduating seniors and commencement guests will certainly be moved by his address,” said Dr. David Whalen, Hillsdale College Provost. “The College is thrilled to have Dr. Esolen back to campus for such an important event.”
Dr. Esolen received his bachelor’s degree cum laude from Princeton University and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. His latest books include Reflections on the Christian Life: How Our Story Is God’s Story and Ten Ways to Destroy the Imagination of Your Child. He teaches renaissance English literature and the development of western civilization at Providence College.
