Hillsdale College Alumni Relations hosts 50- and 60-year reunion

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Members of the Hillsdale College graduating classes of 1972 and 1962 returned to campus April 6-8 to celebrate their 50- and 60-year class reunions. The three-day event included activities including campus and Halter Center tours, dinner with live music, recognition at the College’s Spring Convocation, a memorial service, and class attendance.

“We are always thrilled to host our 50- and 60-year reunion groups on campus,” said Colleen McGinness, executive director of alumni relations. “Participants travel from all around the country to be here, and some haven’t stepped on campus since they graduated more than 50 years ago, so we work hard to make this a special and memorable reunion week.”

Graduation reunions began on campus in 1989 and originally took place during the week of commencement. McGinness said the reunions now take place during the week of spring convocation so that alumni can see campus in full swing, attend live classes, and meet current students.

Many people help plan the annual event, including alumni. Ronda Deer (’60) has served on the alumni board since 1991 and assisted with reunions ever since, helping alumni don their robes for convocation and assisting anywhere else she is needed.

“Helping with reunions has allowed me to meet wonderful new people and reunite with old friends I have not seen in a long time,” said Deer. “I can’t tell you enough about what the college has meant to me. Hillsdale is my second home. My life started here.”

Many of the event’s activities took place in the newly renovated Campbell Hall. Reunion attendees were recognized during spring convocation.
