The seventh annual Tom Klix Memorial competition took place on Sept. 24

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College hosted its seventh annual Tom Klix Memorial Sporting Clays Classic on Sept. 24 at the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center. The annual sporting clays classic was named for a 1975 Hillsdale College graduate and longtime supporter of the College’s shotgun team. The event raised approximately $13,000 for the endowment of shooting sports scholarships.

“This tournament is such a wonderful way to honor Tom’s commitment to sportsmanship and longtime support of students and shooting sports at Hillsdale,” said Colleen McGinness, executive director of Alumni Relations. “We are thankful for all who came out and supported shooting sports in Tom’s memory.”

Sixteen teams of shooters participated in the tournament. The winning team included Aaron Burgin, Perry Hintz, Anthony LaMacchia, and Thomas Rodgers.

The tournament took place on the Halter Center’s sporting clays course and was followed by a buffet, awards ceremony, and silent auction. During the auction, participants could bid on select firearms, outdoor gear, and gift certificates.

Since 2016, the Alumni Association Board has held a sporting clays tournament each fall. In 2020, the event was renamed in honor of Klix. All proceeds of the event will fund scholarships for students on the Hillsdale College competitive shotgun team.
