Hillsdale Academy Begins 27th Year with Largest Enrollment in Its History
Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale Academy, an independent, classical K-12 school located on the campus of Hillsdale College, began its new school year on August 28, welcoming 30 new students and 168 returning students for a total enrollment of 198. This year’s enrollment of 198 students marks the largest student body since the academy opened its doors on the campus of Hillsdale College in 1990.
“The first opening ceremony of the year is an important one. Each year the entire school gathers around the flagpole to say the pledge and to pray for the Lord’s guidance in our work,” said Kenneth Calvert, headmaster of Hillsdale Academy. “Parents always join us for this special event. This year we had more than 100 parents in attendance. It is a joy to see everyone back in school again.”
Hillsdale Academy offers its pupils a classical liberal arts education grounded in the spiritual, intellectual and cultural traditions of the West as they have been developed and refined over generations. The school’s curriculum centers on mastery of core subjects through engagement with carefully selected texts, and personal instruction from the academy’s faculty thanks to small class sizes. In addition to essential subjects of study, students are exposed to a variety of supplementary subjects, including language studies in French and Latin, art, music, and physical education.
The nationally acclaimed school serves as a model for schools across the country with students who consistently perform in the highest percentiles of standardized testing and go on to pursue high-caliber post-secondary education. Hillsdale Academy’s curriculum is in use by more than 500 schools in the nation.
