Hillsdale Academy Hosts 18th Commencement Ceremony
Headmaster Kenneth Calvert to address school’s largest senior class to date
On Sunday, June 3, Hillsdale Academy will host its 18th Commencement Ceremony. Kenneth Calvert, headmaster of Hillsdale Academy and Hillsdale College associate professor of history, will deliver the Commencement address. The Academy will graduate its largest class to date, with 24 accepting diplomas.
Dr. Kenneth Calvert joined the history faculty of Hillsdale College in 1996. Since 1999, he has served as director of the College’s Oxford Study Abroad Program. He received the Emily Daugherty Award for Teaching Excellence at Hillsdale College in 1999, and in 2000 was named Professor of the Year. In addition to his professorial duties, Dr. Calvert has served as Headmaster of Hillsdale Academy since 2002.
Dr. Calvert holds degrees from Wheaton College (B.A.), Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Harvard University (Th.M.) and Miami University of Ohio (Ph.D.). During the winter of 1986, Dr. Calvert lived in Pakistan, serving Afghan refugees during the Russian War. In 1988 and 1989, he attended Bristol and Oxford Universities as a visiting scholar. Dr. Calvert’s historical research interests include the Roman Republic and the rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire, as well as the early history of Islam. He has published his work in scholarly and popular publications on ancient history, the history of Christianity and classical education.
