Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale Academy, an independent classical K-12 day school located in Hillsdale, Michigan, congratulates senior Faith Van Havel, who has been accepted to attend the United States Military Academy (USMA) and the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). This is the first time in Hillsdale Academy’s 27- year history that a student has been accepted to either school.

“Naturally, all the students and faculty are thrilled at this wonderful news and Faith’s accomplishment,” said Ken Calvert, headmaster at Hillsdale Academy. “She’s an outstanding student and was a pleasure to teach. Choosing to serve your country is one of the bravest and most selfless things one can do. We wish her the best of luck. I’m confident she’ll do amazing things throughout her career.”

The USMA is an elite officer training institution and the oldest service academy in the United States, located in West Point, New York, about 50 miles north of New York City. Attending students are known as cadets and have their tuition fully funded by the U.S. Army in exchange for active service duty upon graduation.

Located in western Colorado, the USAFA’s mission is “to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become leaders of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation.” The Academy is one of the most competitive for admissions, having only accepted 17 percent of applicants in fall 2015, according to U.S. News & World Report.
