Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale Academy congratulates freshman student Francesca Rahe on receiving three 2018 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her short story entries in the Midwest regional and national competitions.

“We are incredibly proud of Francesca and her achievement,” said Hillsdale Academy Headmaster David Diener. “We see the abilities of our students every day in their work at Hillsdale Academy, and we are encouraged to see Francesca’s work recognized with this prestigious award.”

Rahe earned three Midwest regional awards for her short story entries, including a Silver Key for “A Dishonorable Pact With Solitude” and Gold Key awards for “The Hardest Hue to Hold” and “The Magnificence of the O’Hannigains.” Click here to read Rahe’s stories.

Rahe’s two short stories receiving Gold Key awards were judged again on the national level by a panel of creative professionals along with Gold Key recipients from across the program’s 122 affiliate regions. In the national competition, Rahe’s “The Hardest Hue to Hold” earned a Silver Medal and “The Magnificence of the O’Hannigains” earned a Gold Medal.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and are the nation’s longest-running creative scholarship and recognition awards, honoring outstanding work across 29 categories since 1923. The 2018 award program received more than 330,000 art and writing submissions, including more than 7,000 from Iowa and the Midwest region. National medalists were announced in March 2018 and honored at a ceremony on June 7, 2018 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Rahe joins the ranks of many distinguished Scholastic Art & Writing Award recipients, and her award-winning work was recognized at a regional awards ceremony at the University of Iowa in March.
