Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale Academy congratulates senior Peter Kalthoff on his selection as a Class D ScholarAthlete in the Michigan High School Athletic Association/Farm Bureau Insurance annual scholarship award program.

“We’re extremely proud of Peter and his exceptional work both in athletics and the classroom,” said Kenneth Calvert, Hillsdale Academy headmaster. “This is a well-deserved recognition of his sportsmanship and commitment to excellence.”

Kalthoff is the tenth Hillsdale Academy student to receive this prestigious award and is one of ten student athletes selected from MHSAA Class C and D member schools this year. A three-sport athlete, Kalthoff has competed in four seasons of both varsity soccer and varsity basketball, helping both teams to District titles, and plans to compete in his second season of varsity track and field this spring. Kalthoff has earned all-state accolades in all three sports, is a four-year member of the National Honor Society and previously served as president of Hillsdale Academy’s service club.

Additionally, Kalthoff is a dedicated vocalist and musician. He has participated for four years in drama, chamber choir and vocal band, and he was a member of Hillsdale Academy’s string quartet and orchestra. He participated in the Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra and as a violinist in the Cambridge International and Center Stage strings festivals. He plans to study music performance for his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan or Hillsdale College.

Sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance, the Scholar-Athlete Award program presents $1,000 scholarships to students holding at least a 3.5 GPA and a varsity letter in one or more sports for which the MHSAA holds a postseason tournament. Applicants also must demonstrate commitment to other community and school activities and author an essay on the topic of sportsmanship’s impact on educational athletics.

Each award recipient will be honored at halftime of the Class C Boys Basketball State Finals on March 24 at the Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.
