Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team Competes at World Speed Shooting Championship

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College Action Shooting Team members Gregory Clement (‘23) and Zechariah Steiger (‘24) competed at the World Speed Shooting Championship hosted by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association in Talladega, Alabama from April 26 to 30.

Clement competed in the limited division in the unclassified class, earning a score of 95.05 seconds and second place; the carry optics division as a grand master, earning a score of 91.52 seconds and fourth place; and the rim fire pistol optics division as a grand master, earning a score of 71.69 seconds and eleventh place. With an overall score of 258.26 seconds, Clement received the Steel Master Award, which is given to the competitor with the lowest aggregate score in three completed match times. Steiger shot in the production division in B class and received a total score of 120.15 seconds, placing seventh overall.

“The consistent hard work and dedication this team puts forth both at home and at matches is remarkable,” said Adam Burlew, coach of the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team. “The World Speed Shooting Championship was a great experience.”

First established as a club in 2017, the Hillsdale Action Shooting Team has seen rising success in recent years, earning two consecutive national championships during the Scholastic Action Shooting Program’s College Nationals.

The Steel Challenge is a fast-paced shooting competition governed by the SCSA. It features eight standardized stages with small, large, and rectangular steel targets. The winner is determined by their overall completion time.

About the John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center

The Halter Center is a state-of-the-art shooting facility located five miles from the Hillsdale College campus.
