HILLSDALE, Michigan – Hillsdale College welcomes and encourages all U.S. military veterans to apply for its Freedom Scholarship, a private scholarship available exclusively to American veterans. The Freedom Scholarship is funded by private citizens who want to honor the bravery and sacrifices of service members in upholding and defending the U.S. Constitution.

“This is truly a unique scholarship available only at Hillsdale College,” said Jeffery Rogers, associate dean of men at Hillsdale College and a retired U.S. Navy Chief. “We want to make sure all of our veterans are honored and supported when they return to civilian life. The Freedom Scholarship gives them peace of mind to know that financial concerns will not get in the way of their success. Plus, the full scholarship for Hillsdale’s undergraduate program means they can keep their GI Bill benefits for another use.”

Hillsdale College does not accept any form of federal funding, including through student loans and benefits such as the GI Bill. Because the Freedom Scholarship is funded by private donations, recipients retain their GI Bill benefits and can use them to pursue an advanced degree.

Hillsdale College has awarded Freedom Scholarships to 40 individuals since the program launched in 2007, saving veterans more than $2.2 million.

“I was so impressed with how eager they were to help me get here,” said Jon Lewis, Hillsdale College graduate and veteran Marine Sergeant. “Private donors stepped in and gave me a full, four-year ride. It’s amazing to see that because they understand how valuable that is to us.”

All scholarship applicants must meet Hillsdale College’s educational entrance requirements.
