Hillsdale College Hosts Jennifer Newsome Martin for 26th Annual Faith in Life Lecture
Hillsdale, Mich. – On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Hillsdale College welcomes University of Notre Dame scholar Jennifer Newsome Martin for the 26th Annual Faith in Life Lecture hosted by the Hillsdale College Department of Philosophy and Religion. Her lecture, “Mystic Fables and Fabled Mystics: Wandering through Spanish Literary and Religious Genius,” will explore the world of literary and literal mystical experiences through the perspectives of St. Teresa of Avila and Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote as reflected in the novel Teresa My Love: An Imagined Life of the Saint of Avila by Julia Kristeva.

Who
Jennifer Newsome Martin is an assistant professor at the University of Notre Dame in the Department of Theology’s Program of Liberal Studies. She is a systematic theologian whose research focus includes trinitarian theology, 19th and 20th century Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox theology, religion and literature, theological aesthetics, French feminism, ressourcement theology, and the nature of religious tradition. Her first book, Hans Urs von Balthasar and the Critical Appropriation of Russian Religious Thought, won the Manfred Lautenschlaeger Award for Theological Promise in 2017. She earned her master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Notre Dame.
