Hillsdale, Mich. — Hillsdale College today announced the establishment of its newest honor society, Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. The official signing of the charter and initiation of its faculty members was conducted at the ceremonial installation of the chapter. The initiation of students will take place later in the semester.

“Given Hillsdale’s emphasis on the well-ordered mind, it’s important to recognize and celebrate the intellectual achievements of our students across the disciplines,” said Dr. Korey Maas, assistant professor of history and president of Hillsdale’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter. “My hope is that Phi Kappa Phi will serve both as a reminder that the college celebrates the intellectual achievements of its students and as a facilitator of those achievements through sponsored programs and fellowships.”

Hillsdale is the 334th chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. The chartering group elected officers to serve the newly installed chapter: president Maas, president-elect Paul Hosmer, secretary Lorraine Murphy, and treasurer David Murphy.

Membership in the society is by invitation to students of junior or senior standing, or in the graduate program. Juniors must be in the top 7.5 percent of their class; seniors and graduate students must be in the top 10 percent.
