Hillsdale College Online Curriculum Attracts 1.7 Million Students

Free courses continue to grow with thousands of new students every day

Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College announced today that 1.7 million students have enrolled in its various free online courses.

“Hillsdale College prides itself on offering a classical liberal arts education to students both on campus and online,” said Jon Lewis, director of digital marketing. “It is encouraging to see students of all ages engaging the timeless ideas explored in our catalog of online courses, from Jane Austen to The Federalist Papers.”

In 2011, Hillsdale College began offering free, not-for-credit courses online, and continues to be a leader in online education. Hillsdale offers several free courses from its Core Curriculum led by the College’s own renowned faculty across the disciplines of politics, history, religion, economics and literature. The most popular course, “Constitution 101: The Meaning and History of the Constitution,” explores the principles and history of the U.S. Constitution and has been taken by more than more than one million online students.

  • “Mark Twain: Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and Selected Short Stories” – Larry P. Arnn, Kelly Scott Franklin and Benedict J. Whalen
  • “Western Heritage: From the Book of Genesis to John Locke” – Larry P. Arnn, Kenneth R. Calvert, Matthew Gaetano, Mark A. Kalthoff, Korey D. Maas and Paul A. Rahe
