Hillsdale, Mich. – Hillsdale College congratulates the students and staff of Radio Free Hillsdale, the College’s on-campus, student-run radio station, on being named finalists for five national awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS).

“This is the station’s first year participating in this competition, so to have so many pieces in the running is a great encouragement,” said Scot Bertram, general manager of Radio Free Hillsdale. “Our students work hard to produce incredible radio programming, and I’m proud to see them recognized for that effort.”

Radio Free Hillsdale, WRFH, is Hillsdale College’s student radio station, where students report, produce and host a variety of news and talk programs. Radio Free Hillsdale productions are finalists for the following IBS awards:

  • Best Talk Program: “Off Topic” – Shadrach Strehle, Dylan Strehle, Ross Hatley, Ben Dietderich
  • Best Documentary: “Opioid Epidemic” – Jenna Suchyta
  • Best Comedy Program: “The Daily Grind” – Jacquelyn Eubanks
  • Best Show Promotional Poster: “The Devil’s Advocate” – Ben Dietderich
  • Best Sports Play-By-Play, Baseball/Softball: “Hillsdale College vs. Wayne State Baseball” – Cole McNeely, Martin Petersen

IBS presents awards every year to college and high school media outlets across more than 100 categories. As finalists, Radio Free Hillsdale’s submissions scored in the top ten percent of entries in each category. Entrants for the 2017-2018 College Awards increased four times from the previous year’s number of entries.

Award winners were announced at the IBS Annual Conference in New York City on March 3, 2018. For more information on IBS, visit http://www.collegebroadcasters.us/.
