Hillsdale College Shotgun Team Competes in Division II at ACUI National Championship
Team takes sixth place in largest collegiate shotgun competition to date
HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Charger shotgun team competed in Division II in the annual Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio from March 18-27. The event was the largest collegiate shotgun competition to date, featuring more than 1,000 athletes from 95 schools. Hillsdale’s 11-person team took sixth place out of 21 Division II teams, beating the University of Alabama and Clemson.
“Although we didn’t finish quite where we would’ve liked at nationals, it’s tough to look back on this year and think it was anything short of spectacular,” said head coach Jordan Hintz. “We put up incredible scores at nearly every event we attended. I’m so proud of our seniors, freshman, and the rest of the team for how hard they worked and how they composed themselves the entire year.”
Division II is designated for teams with 11 to 20 competitors. The team had won seven ACUI Division III HOA titles.
Hillsdale posted a score of 2,767 out of 3,000 over the course of the competition. The team competed in six disciplines: American Trap, Trap Doubles, American Skeet, Skeet Doubles, Sporting Clays, and Super Sporting. Freshman Josh Corbin finished tied for 14th in individual High Overall. The team’s highest scores are as follows:
- Josh Corbin – 1st individual International Skeet, 94/100; t-2nd individual 1st-year Super Sporting, 93/100; Combined International, 171/200; 14th HOA (normally All-American), 560/600
- Kyle Fleck – 2nd individual International Skeet, 94/100; 2nd individual 1st-year Sporting Clays, 92/100
- Woody Glazer – t-1st individual American Skeet, 100/100; t-1st individual 2nd-year American Skeet, 100/100
- Anthony LaMacchia – t-3rd individual 3rd-year Doubles Skeet, 96/100
- 3rd place Division II Team Sporting Clays, 426/500
- 3rd place Division II Team Skeet Doubles, 469/500
- 3rd place Division II Team Trap Doubles, 461/500
Corbin and freshman Kyle Fleck both also shot International Skeet at the International Shoot-Out side event and tied for top competitor. After a shoot-off, Corbin was awarded gold and Fleck silver. Corbin also shot International Trap. His score between the two events earned him high Combined International individual.
