Hillsdale College Welcomes New Faculty

Ten professors join the Hillsdale College Faculty for the academic year

HILLSDALE, Mich. — Hillsdale College welcomes ten new faculty members to campus for the 2022-2023 school year. Eight will join the College’s campus in Michigan and two will join Hillsdale College in D.C.

“We are excited to welcome these distinguished scholars into the Hillsdale College community,” said Chris VanOrman, Hillsdale College provost. “We wish both our new and established faculty the best as we start another school year.”

Hillsdale College welcomes:

Christina Chakalova, assistant professor of art

Erik Ellis, assistant professor of education

Nathan Herring, assistant professor of physics

Mickey Mattox, professor of theology

Jonathan Mumme, associate professor of theology

Jared Parker, assistant professor of psychology

Andrew Russell, associate professor of biology

Richard Samuelson, associate professor of government (D.C.)

Michael Tripepi, assistant professor of physics

Bradley Watson, associate professor of government (D.C.)

Dr. Christina Chakalova earned her Ph.D. from Rutgers University (2021), her M.A. from Universität Wien (2012), and her B.A. from Lafayette College (2005).

Dr. Erik Ellis earned his Ph.D., M.A. in classics, and M.M.S. from the University of Notre Dame (2019, 2016, and 2015). He received his bachelor’s degree and an M.A. in history from Baylor University (2006 and 2007).

Dr. Nathan Herring received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh (2020) and his B.A. from Central College (2013).

Dr. Mickey Mattox earned his Ph.D. from Duke University (1997). He has a master’s degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (1994) and Simon Greenleaf School of Law (1987).

Dr. Jonathan Mumme received his Ph.D. from Eberhard Karls Universität (2013), his M.A. from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (2006), and his B.A. from Concordia University, Chicago (2000).

Dr. Jared Parker earned his Ph.D. from Brigham Young University (2022), his M.S. from the University of Dallas (2018), and his B.S. from Brigham Young University (2013).

Dr. Andrew Russell earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington (2014) and his B.S. from Hillsdale College (2005).

Dr. Richard Samuelson received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Virginia (2000 and 1995) and his B.A. from Bates College (1992).

Dr. Michael Tripepi earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from Ohio State University (2022 and 2020) and his B.S. from Hillsdale College (2017).

Dr. Bradley Watson received his Ph.D. and M.A. from Claremont Graduate University (1996 and 1992) and his B.A. from the University of British Columbia (1983).
